practice diary #4: retrospect series

In honor of my final academic year I’m taking a look back at the guiding questions I wrote down last year and reflecting on what I learned…

– how can I invite my community into my learning as a way of connection? a way of making space for communal loneliness?

Connection implies vulnerability. But so also does learning. Because learning means that there is a chance you may be wrong, and called out on it. Which is a good thing, but can feel very vulnerable.

And to be connected means that one or both people are “seeing” aspects of the other and understanding. So learning as a way of connection is not guaranteed, but could be achieved when the “teacher” empathizes with the learner, and the learner is committed to the learning.

Vulnerability and curiosity to learn. Empathy to teach/show.
