Franz Marc first painted his famous blue horses in 1911.
In 1967, Eric Carle replicated the blue horses in his children’s book, “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?” (and then again in 2011, with “The artist who painted a blue horse.”)
Then in 2014, Mary Oliver wrote a poem about the blue horses, “Maybe our world will grow kinder eventually. Maybe the desire to make something beautiful is the piece of God that is inside of us.” (p. 43 of Blue Horses)
It’s as if artist was opening the door for another…
