Serenity: the state of being untroubled.
When I think of the word serenity, I most often associate it with the Serenity Prayer: a prayer about changing the things we can and letting go of those we cannot.
It’s interesting that the way in which we get to an untroubled state is often through surrender. That instead of fighting our way into peace, we have to let go in order to get there. My instinct to get what I want (or feel the way I want) is often to fight harder, or to resist more. Rarely does that land me where I want.
However, I’m learning to ask: can I change this?
If I can, I begin.
If I cannot, there is nothing to be done.
